Earth Day 2023 & Cruising

Events aimed at raising awareness about environmental concerns were organized by a senator from Wisconsin on April 22, 1970.

Earth Day 2023, which falls on April 22, is a global event dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and encouraging actions to protect the planet.

This year, the theme for Earth Day 2023 is "Restore Our Earth," which highlights the urgent need to address the environmental challenges facing our planet, including climate change, pollution, and loss of biodiversity.

Oceans cover approximately 71% of the earth's surface, which is why protecting them is so important.

Many cruise lines take the opportunity on Earth Day to highlight their environmental initiatives, such as using cleaner-burning fuels, like Carnival LNG powered ships. Implementing recycling programs, and reducing waste, and single use plastic like water bottles, straws and drink stirrers.

Some cruise lines, like MSC offer shore excursions on Earth Day that focus on environmental education and conservation.

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)-certified excursions number 2,000 in total, here are 10 of the best Ecotourism excursions to celebrate Earth Day:

  1. Take a Zip Line in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

  2. Swim with the Dolphins in Tortola, British Virgin Islands
